Getting Started
Not at all. We welcome all experience levels, including complete beginners. Our structured program guides you step by step from day one.
No. You don't need to be fit to start — boxing itself will get you there. Our classes are designed for all fitness levels and will build your endurance, strength, and confidence over time.
Your first class covers boxing fundamentals — stance, footwork, and basic punches — along with warm-ups, bag work, and conditioning. No sparring is required for beginners. Just show up and we'll take care of the rest.
Yes. We offer a free 90-minute trial class for kids ages 7–17 that mirrors exactly what their first real session looks like. For adults, come in and meet Coach Alfredo — we encourage it. You can also call us at 510-423-6743 to schedule a visit.
You can sign up online through the contact form on our homepage, call us at 510-423-6743, or come in person. We're at 3651 Foothill Boulevard, Oakland, CA 94601.
Training
For regular training you'll need:
  • Boxing or wrestling shoes
  • A jump rope
  • 16 oz. boxing gloves
  • Mexican-style hand wraps (180")
  • Water and a towel
If you're just trying out a class, we can provide gloves and a jump rope.
Session length depends on where you are in your training:
  • Beginners: About 90 minutes
  • Advanced members: About 2 hours
  • Competitive fighters: Up to 3–4 hours per session
Not at all. Boxing is for everyone — kids, teens, adults, and seniors. Whether you're 7 or 70, it's a great way to stay fit, build confidence, and learn self-defense. We welcome all genders and all fitness levels.
Absolutely. Many of our members train for fitness, stress relief, or personal growth without ever stepping into a competition ring. You train at your own pace and on your own terms.
Youth Program
Yes. Our youth program starts at age 7 and focuses on discipline, confidence, fitness, and technique in a structured, safe, and fun environment. It's the heart of what we do at Gopa.
Yes — we offer a free 90-minute trial class for kids ages 7–17. It's scheduled in advance and mirrors exactly what their first real class looks like. No commitment required. Use the contact form on our homepage to book it.
Just a water bottle. We provide everything else — gloves, hand wraps, jump rope, and all the gear they need for the session.

For footwear: we do not allow regular tennis shoes on the mat. Our mats are kept clean and we ask that everyone train in boxing or wrestling shoes. Since most kids don't have those yet, they'll train in socks for the trial class — we recommend a thick pair for comfort. Once they join, we suggest picking up a pair of boxing or wrestling shoes, though many members continue training in socks until they do.

A note for parents: we ask that parents drop off their child and wait outside during the trial class. This applies to all parents, not just new ones. Keeping the training floor free of spectators gives every member — including your child — a better, more focused experience. We appreciate your understanding and support.
Parents are welcome to wait outside or drop off. Kids focus better and get more out of every session when the training space is theirs. This applies to all parents — not just new ones — and we appreciate your support in keeping the gym environment focused and professional.
Sparring & Competition
No. Sparring is completely optional. If and when you choose to spar, our coaches will make sure you're technically ready, safe, and properly equipped before your first session.
New members typically spend 3–4 months building their technical foundation before being cleared to spar. You'll only begin when both you and Coach agree you're ready. All sparring participants are required to hold a USA Boxing license — we'll guide you through that process.
Yes. Several of our members actively compete and many more are training toward it. Our fighters participate in local and national tournaments including Golden Gloves. We also host our own live amateur boxing event — Town Fights — which gives fighters a local stage to compete.
Membership & Pricing
We have three plans based on how many sessions per week you want to train — Contender (3×), Challenger (4×), and Champion (6×). Prices vary by age group: Kids (7–17), Young Adults (18–21), and Adults (22+). A one-time $60 enrollment fee applies to all new members. Full pricing is on the membership page.
Every membership includes 90-minute coach-led sessions covering jump rope, footwork, head movement, shadowboxing, heavy bag, speed bag, ladder work, and defense drills. Access to the full facility is included with all plans.
